The cocoon lamp process involves spraying a synthetic resin material over a steel wireframe to create a lightweight, durable diffuser. This technique was pioneered in the 1950s-60s, notably by Achille Castiglioni for Flos. The sprayed cocoon material hardens into a soft, cloud-like structure, allowing the lamp to emit a warm, ambient light.
